Funny story—I did this little graphic doodle and posted it online. It came from feelings of frustration and solidarity, and at the time, I didn’t think much of it beyond sharing it on my TikTok account as a way to express myself.
Well, it turns out that design resonated with thousands of people, and the post ended up going a bit viral. People started asking if they could get it on a hoodie, and honestly, I thought that sounded like a great idea—I wanted one too! So, I put in the work to figure out how to make that happen.
I'm not a printer, and I couldn’t afford to have a bunch of items printed upfront and then try to sell them. The obvious choice was print-on-demand (POD), so I went that route. This way, I could get one for myself, and anyone else who wanted one could order too. I redrew the design properly for printing, set up a Sellfy store, and now you can grab it on hoodies, tees, and even stickers!
The original doodle came from my frustration with everything going on. If you're Canadian, you know what I mean. I wanted to show my pride in Canada and stand in solidarity with other Canadians.
I chose Sellfy because it's not a U.S. company, and for Canadian customers, these items are printed and shipped from Toronto! I specifically chose only the items that Sellfy prints in Canada. They have printers worldwide, so they ship from the closest location to the customer, but for those of us here in Canada, that Ontario-based printer is where ours will come from so this venture is supporting a Canadian business.
I didn’t realize until I was too deep into it that I’d have to pay for the POD account, so it ended up costing me more than I expected. But by that point, I felt committed to seeing it through. I priced the items reasonably to cover the costs—which includes the garment price, printing cost, and processing fees. There’s not much profit in it, but that was never my goal. (And to the person who said I should make these free for all Canadians—I wish I had that kind of money!)
I got caught up in the emotion and solidarity, and when someone asked for a female version, I created that too. Then I kept going and designed a beaver character, plus I reworked the original design with more intention. That first design was something I whipped up while watching TV one night; the later versions were more deliberate.
Since I'm not a printer, the quality is in the hands of the Ontario-based company. However, Sellfy assures me they offer support if there are any issues.
Unfortunately, within a week of my original post going viral, some U.S.-based companies took screenshots of my design and started selling it on apparel. Since they only have a low-quality screenshot (not my design file), I can’t imagine the print quality is good. I wasn’t planning to promote my little store here, but I feel I should now. I don’t want scammers using my design to rip off Canadians.
So, if you’re interested, my Sellfy store is the only place where you can get these designs properly printed. Anywhere else, it’s stolen, and the quality will likely be poor.
Anyway, thanks for stopping by, and I hope you enjoy these designs!
